Walter Roethe

	Walter Roethe, 78, of Columbia, Ill., died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at St. Anthonys Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo.
	Born in Pinckneyville on Wednesday, July 25, 1923, he was the son of the late Otto and Christina (Beck) Roethe.  He retired as a Maintenance Supervisor at Ameren UE in St. Louis, Mo.
	He was the husband of Dorothy (Beck) Roethe.
	He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbia, Ill.  He served in WW II in the U.S. Army.  He also served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army.  Memberships include V.F.W. Post #7980, American Legion Post #502, both of Millstadt, honorary member of the Millstadt Volunteer Fire Dept., Monroe County Farm Bureau and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors.
	In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sherry (Kerry) Blass of Crystal Lake; a son, Steve (Cherie) Roethe of Pawnee, sister, Mildred Ziegler of Pinckneyville; brother, Carl (Isabelle) Roethe of Pinckneyville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edna Roethe and Hilda Roethe, both of Pinckneyville, Eileen Beck of Ballwin, Mo., Ronald (Ruth) Beck of Tacoma, Wash. and Lucille (Roger) Pyatt of Naples, Fla.; grandchildren, Nathan and Michael Roethe and Anna, April and Arnie Blass and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by two sons in infancy and two brothers, Herbert and Ervin Roethe.
	Funeral services were held at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday with Pastor Steven Theiss officiating.
	Graveside services were held at Sunset Memorial Park in DuQuoin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
	Friends were invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Lawlor funeral Home in Columbia.
